Many bright students struggle to learn. They may not be able to remember their spelling words from one week to the next. Often, they cannot remember how to spell high frequency words such as friend, want or because. Though they've been taught the rules, they can still have trouble remembering when to use capitalization and punctuation. They can read, to a point, but they struggle compared to their peers and still have difficulty sounding out new words phonetically. Does this sound like your child?
Dyslexia is one of the most common reasons students have difficulties learning to read, spell and write. For a child with dyslexia, research supports the use of a reading system that is both systematic and multisensory with explicit instruction in phonemic awareness and phonics. I am a certified instructor in the Barton Reading & Spelling System, a curriculum aligned with current research in reading success.
I am passionate about helping kids who struggle with reading and spelling due to dyslexia. I know from experience that clear, explicit teaching using the Barton Reading and Spelling System has allowed these students to close the gap and experience success.
With over 20 years experience as a classroom teacher, I have most recently enjoyed serving as the Resource Specialist Program Director in a private school. I hold both a California Teaching Credential and a Maters degree in Education and have tutored students from grades one through eight helping them build their skills and excel in spite of their challenges with dyslexia.

Tutoring sessions are one-on-one, held here in my home in Ventura.
I look forward to hearing from you!
